Abstract
The program aims to generate, capture, disseminate, and apply high-quality information and knowledge, as well as high-potential practices in food security and assistance for development, to ensure that the majority of communities and households benefit from US government investments in famine relief. Through the transfer of technical skills, a small grants program to fund research, documentation, and innovation, and a physical and online community of practice (the Food Security and Nutrition [FSN] Network), the TOPS program equips food security and assistance operators and the donor community to create a lasting impact in the lives of millions of vulnerable people worldwide. Piloted by Save the Children, the TOPS program leverages the expertise of its partners in the Consortium: CORE Group (Knowledge Management), Food for the Hungry (Social Behavior Change), Mercy Corps (Agriculture and Natural Resources), and TANGO (Monitoring and Evaluation). Save the Children brings its experience and expertise in product management, gender, and food and nutrition technology, as well as grant management of the $30 million, 7-year (2010-2017) subvention. The TOPS program has been made possible through the generous support of the American people through USAID. The content of this report was created by TOPS and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of USAID or the Government of the United States of America. The TOPS program is a comprehensive approach to improving food security and assistance for development. The program consists of several key components, including the TOPS Permagarden toolkit, which includes a 3-day training guide, a 5-day trainer's guide, and various resources. The TOPS Permagarden toolkit is designed to equip farmers with the skills and knowledge needed to create and maintain a permaculture garden, which can improve food security and income for small-scale farmers. The TOPS Permagarden training guide is a 3-day program that aims to equip farmers with the skills and knowledge needed to create and maintain a permaculture garden. The guide is designed to be used in conjunction with the TOPS Permagarden toolkit, which includes a manual, a trainer's guide, and various resources. The training guide is divided into several sessions, each of which focuses on a different aspect of permaculture gardening, including site evaluation, soil preparation, and crop selection. The TOPS Permagarden program is designed to be used in a variety of contexts, including small-scale farming, community development, and disaster relief. The program is particularly relevant in areas where food security is a major concern, such as in developing countries or in areas affected by conflict or natural disasters. The TOPS Permagarden program has several key benefits, including improved food security, increased income for small-scale farmers, and enhanced community development. The program is also designed to be sustainable, with a focus on long-term impact and community ownership. The TOPS Permagarden program is a valuable resource for anyone interested in improving food security and assistance for development. The program is designed to be used in a variety of contexts and has several key benefits, including improved food security, increased income for small-scale farmers, and enhanced community development.
