Potable water project

Assistance from the Water and Sanitation for Health (WASH) project was requested to conduct a quick feasibility study for a new initiative in rural potable water. The WASH report presents a preliminary project design for a 3-year handpump program and evaluates the capability of domestic water agencies to address their existing backlog of water projects. While the study is somewhat helpful in terms of supplying statistics and information for a well drilling and handpump effort, no attempt was made to present and evaluate different program options. USAID/ES is proceeding with a pilot combined handpump and water system effort in late FY86 and FY87 prior to full-scale project identification for the proposed FY88 potable water project.
