Abstract
Government-led partnership that brings together over 170 public and private sector partners to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative aims to increase electricity generation by more than 30,000 megawatts (MW) and connect 60 million new homes and businesses to power by 2023. As of September 30, 2021, Power Africa has achieved significant progress in achieving its goals. The initiative has financially closed 135 transactions, totaling 12,498 MW of electricity generation. This includes 72 transactions have been commissioned and are producing electricity. The majority of these transactions are based on renewable energy technologies, with 77% of financially closed transactions being solar, wind, solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. The geographic focus of Power Africa's efforts is primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, with a significant presence in countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. The initiative has also made progress in connecting new homes and businesses to power, with 27 million people having access to electricity for the first time.
