Overseas Loans and Grants Obligations and Loan Authorizations July 1, 1945 – September 30, 2016 The report is compiled under contract on behalf of the Knowledge Management branch of USAID's Chief Information Office. Data reported in this publication may also be obtained from the USAID website at www.usaid.gov. The data in this report are from United States Government departments and independent offices. Reporting Concepts The report provides a comprehensive overview of U.S. overseas loans and grants obligations and loan authorizations from July 1, 1945, to September 30, 2016. The data are organized by region, with separate sections for the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and other regions. Middle East and North Africa The Middle East and North Africa region received significant U.S. assistance during the reporting period. Algeria received the largest amount of U.S. aid, with total obligations and loan authorizations exceeding $13 billion. Other countries in the region, including Egypt, Iran, Iraq, and Israel, also received substantial U.S. assistance. Sub-Saharan Africa Sub-Saharan Africa was another region that received significant U.S. aid during the reporting period. The largest recipient in the region was Nigeria, with total obligations and loan authorizations exceeding $10 billion. Other countries in the region, including South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania, also received substantial U.S. assistance. Latin America and Caribbean The Latin America and Caribbean region received significant U.S. assistance during the reporting period. Brazil was the largest recipient in the region, with total obligations and loan authorizations exceeding $20 billion. Other countries in the region, including Mexico, Argentina, and Chile, also received substantial U.S. assistance. Regional Breakdown The report provides a detailed breakdown of U.S. overseas loans and grants obligations and loan authorizations by region. The Middle East and North Africa region received the largest share of U.S. aid, with total obligations and loan authorizations exceeding $50 billion.
