Abstract
The project was funded by USAID and operated from October 1, 2013, to September 31, 2018. Global leadership in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) policy, advocacy, and services was demonstrated through the EECO project. In February 2014, EECO staff conducted project launch meetings and initiated pre-product launch advocacy with the Ministries of Health in Malawi and Zambia. The project progress and lessons learned were shared with product developers, project partners, and additional stakeholders via technical advisory group meetings and brownbag sessions. Abstracts and blog posts were created for external dissemination of lessons learned, and additional funding was secured to support EECO activities in Malawi and Zambia. Knowledge generated, organized, and disseminated in response to program needs was a key focus of the EECO project. Regulatory assessments were completed for Malawi and Zambia, and the EECO product and country background research review was conducted. Market research was conducted to inform DELTA marketing planning workshops for the SILCS Diaphragm, Amphora as a lubricant, and the Woman's Condom. Formative research protocols were developed, approved by the ICRW ethical review board, and submitted to local IRBs for review in Malawi and Zambia. Support was provided to the field to implement effective and sustainable FP/RH programs through the EECO project. Marketing planning workshops were held and marketing plans were developed for the SILCS Diaphragm (+ lubricant) and the Woman's Condom. Quality assurance audits were conducted with Kessel Medintim and Dahua Medical Supplies, and the SILCS Diaphragm, Amphora as a lubricant, and the Woman's Condom were listed in Malawi and Zambia. Developed packaging and artwork mock-ups were completed for the listing/registration process, and final mock-ups for Malawi were pre-tested in August and reviewed and approved by WCG in September 2014. The EECO project focused on three main areas: global leadership in FP/RH policy, advocacy, and services; knowledge generated, organized, and disseminated in response to program needs; and support provided to the field to implement effective and sustainable FP/RH programs. The project's geographic focus was on Malawi and Zambia, and the timeframes for the project were from October 1, 2013, to September 31, 2018.
