Abstract
The program focused on three main objectives: conserving biodiversity while creating employment and generating income for vulnerable populations, increasing employment for vulnerable populations that reduces greenhouse gas emissions from land-use change, and promoting sustainable land-use practices. During the third trimester of fiscal year 2021, Guatemala experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases, with 2,463 reported cases and 65 fatalities in Huehuetenango, 999 cases and 33 fatalities in Petén, and 976 cases and 17 fatalities in Alta Verapaz. Despite the dramatic increase in cases, CNCG's implementing partners and beneficiaries maintained their commitment to the program's objectives. Implementation of the program's work plan for 2021 was underway, with notable achievements in the third trimester. These included the implementation of specific objectives, such as conserving biodiversity while creating employment and generating income for vulnerable populations. The program also made progress in capacity building, addressing administrative and financial issues, and implementing transversal themes such as gender, the private sector, and youth. Capacity building was a key aspect of the program, with a focus on training and capacity development for implementing partners and beneficiaries. The program also addressed administrative and financial issues, including the management of finances, procurement, and human resources. Transversal themes, such as gender, the private sector, and youth, were also integrated into the program's implementation. The program's progress was monitored and evaluated through various indicators, including the number of jobs created, the amount of income generated, and the area of land under improved management. The program's implementing partners and beneficiaries were also engaged in the monitoring and evaluation process, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement. Overall, the CNCG initiative in Guatemala aimed to address climate change, biodiversity conservation, and community development, while promoting sustainable land-use practices and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The program's implementation was underway, with notable achievements in the third trimester, and a focus on capacity building, administrative and financial management, and transversal themes.
