Private sector promotion of family planning, operational program grant agreement with the Jamaica Family Planning Association
Sign inUSAID. MISSION TO JAMAICA
OPG to the Jamaica Family Planning Association (JFPA) to promote family planning (FP) through the Jamaican private sector.
1985

Abstract
The project will create a radio dramatization, develop a network of private sector businesses and other organizations to provide FP education and services, and strengthen JFPA"s fundraising capabilities. The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) will help JFPA implement the project. JFPA will develop a radio drama serial dealing with themes of human sexuality to promote FP especially among teenagers and young adults. A 3-month pilot series will air three times per week (approximately 15 minutes per episode), and then be evaluated via a listener survey conducted by a private marketing research company. JFPA will revise the program in accordance with the findings and continue to broadcast the serial nationwide for 21 weeks. It is expected that sponsors will be identified for the serial during this period, and they will gradually assume production and broadcasting costs. Secondly, JFPA will form a network of private employers and other institutions (e.g., credit unions, co-ops, business associations) to provide FP education and contraceptive services (or referrals for clinical contraception) to their employees/members. JFPA will hold seminars for or otherwise contact private sector leaders to encourage their organizations to participate in the project and will maintain regular contact with the organizations throughout the project period. TA will be provided by IPPF and by the Caribbean Family Planning Association. To improve JFPA"s fundraising abilities, IPPF will supply advisors to conduct a feasibility study, prepare an action plan, and hold workshops for JFPA staff and volunteers on the science of resource development. Amendment of 8/28/87 extends project 3 years to develop: (1) a traveling theatrical production based on the radio serial; (2) FP information materials (e.g., posters, pamphlets, and videos); and (3) a new program to promote vasectomy education and services among private physicians. (XD-AAZ-964-A) Amendment of 12/14/88 expands project to include a mass media campaign to promote FP and JFPA activities. (XD-AAZ-964-B)
