USAID DEC
Grant is provided to the MUCIA Program of Advanced Studies in Institution Building and Technical Assistance Methodology (PASITAM) of the University of Indiana to enlarge the information base needed by A.I.D.
SIMPSON, ROBERT C. · 1977
Abstract
to improve its management of development projects. PASITAM will prepare 27 practical reports aimed at developing effective, innovative systems of action for carrying out A.I.D."s mandate. Subjects will include the use of information as a management tool; techniques of goal setting; the use of incentives in project design and implementation; techniques of error reduction and control; and project management under uncertain conditions. A discussion will be included to help readers apply the information to concrete situations. Reports will be issued originally in English, will not exceed 2,000 words, and will follow a format to be developed specifically for this project. PASITAM will also produce nine workbook/textbook type publications, each synthesizing knowledge on a single project management-related topic in a form easily transmittable to users. Examples of this type of product are prior MUCIA texts such as "Designing and Managing Basic Agricultural Development", and "Designing Tools for Development". Specific topics will be chosen by PASITAM in consultation with A.I.D. personnel, and will be produced in "test" editions. PASITAM will also increase A.I.D."s capability to provide information on such practical problems as project design methodology and techniques of implementation, and will provide related reference and advisory assistance on practical problems of project organization and management. PASITAM information products will be disseminated to A.I.D. personnel and contractors engaged in problem analysis and design and to host country individuals and institutions being prepared for development work. A.I.D."s Information Cluster will assist in information dissemination activities. Finally, information will be collected and maintained on individuals within U.S. colleges, universities and elsewhere who can contribute to particular A.I.D. needs for organizing and managing development efforts.
