Project to help the Community Develpment Fund (CDF), a PVO, provide materials, equipment, and/or support services for self-help, basic needs subprojects (SP"s) by Gaza Strip and the West Bank community groups in the priority areas of water resource development, agriculture and marketing, and health and sanitation.

Abstract
The project consists of 13 SP"s. SP"s will: extend water mainline and household connections to the villages of Kawbar, Abu-Shukheidem, and Mazra"ah el-Qibliya; build a well, an elevated reservoir, and a pipe to connect the two in Ya"bad; extend water mainline to the villages of El-Jeeb and, along with household connections, to Jalameh and Mukhmas; build a larger and higher reservoir in Ikhza"ah and a reservoir and household connections in Arrabeh; assist the first stage of a water project in Shufah by drilling, casing, and providing pumping equipment for a well; build at least 20 water-spreading dams in the semiarid Eastern Slopes area; build a sewage treatment plant and lines for three sewage zones in El-Bireh (the largest SP in terms of funding); and build a produce marketing center in Bethlehem expected to treble business. The project includes funding for four projects which have been approved but which cannot be implemented at present. CDF may apply project funds to nine ongoing SP"s. Third major project amendment of 6/83 provides funding for 48 new projects. Amendment cites two previous major amendments (documentation not available): one in 6/82 for 11 new and two updated projects, mostly in the water sector, the other in 9/82 to implement 9 new projects and study 2 others. (PD-AAM-282) Fifth major amendment of 2/84 adds funding for 64 new and 3 continuing subprojects, all in three major sectors - basic needs (water, health, and sanitation), rural economic development (agriculture and small-scale rural enterprises), and child development (special and preschool education). The amendment cites the fourth major amendment (documentation not available) of 1/84 which funded three new water projects in the Gaza Strip plus an extensive background paper on rural economic development in Gaza.
