USAID. MISSION TO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Project to improve the productive and innovative capability of Radio Santa Maria (RSM), in the Dominican Republic, through evaluation studies, training programs, and the procurement of equipment.
1982
Abstract
RSM will implement the project. Field evaluation studies of RSM programs will consist of sample interviews with currently and formerly enrolled students in the Escuelas Radiophonicas and listeners of RSM commercial broadcasts and of its program, "Universidad para Todos". These interviews will provide information on program and format problems, the long-range impact of RSM programs, listener habits and preferences, the appeal of different formats, and topics of further interest. Technical evaluations will review problem areas identified by the field evaluations. A survey of the general radio audience will be conducted to determine the current and potential market for RSM services, and a Dominican consulting firm or business school will study RSM"s administrative structure and data processing needs and will design a micro-computer hardware, software, and training package addressing the latter. Training activities will include: (1) an internship program placing 10 RSM staff members with overseas radio projects and 10 non-Dominican radio staff members with RSM for 3 weeks to expose RSM staff to new approaches to provide them with hands-on training in key technical areas; and (2) long-term training for two RSM staff members (who will later assume supervisory roles) in, respectively, adult non-formal education and radio broadcast production. Finally, RSM"s physical plant will be upgraded by the purchase of books, materials, and broadcast, transmitting, field taping, collating, and stapling equipment.
