Abstract
PSSC I aimed to establish integrated community health service packages at a sufficient scale to impact public health in Senegal. The current phase (PSSC II: 2011-2016) focuses on a continuum of care, with a strong emphasis on community-based health services. The project is implemented in 14 regions and 72 health districts, covering a significant portion of the country. The geographic coverage includes the following regions: Dakar, Diourbel, Fatick, Kaffrine, Kaolack, Kédougou, Kolda, Louga, Matam, Saint-Louis, Tambacounda, Thiès, Sédhiou, and Ziguinchor. The project's objectives are to improve access to and quality of community-based health services, particularly for vulnerable populations such as women, children, and the elderly. The project also aims to strengthen the capacity of local health authorities and community-based organizations to manage and deliver health services. The project's interventions focus on several key areas, including: 1. Community-based health services: The project aims to establish a network of community health workers who will provide basic health services, including maternal and child health, family planning, and disease prevention and control. 2. Health system strengthening: The project will support the strengthening of the health system, including the development of policies, guidelines, and standards for community-based health services. 3. Capacity building: The project will provide training and capacity-building activities for local health authorities, community-based organizations, and community health workers. 4. Monitoring and evaluation: The project will establish a monitoring and evaluation system to track progress, identify challenges, and make adjustments as needed. The project is implemented by a consortium of partners, including ChildFund International, Africare, Catholic Relief Services/United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (CRS), Plan International USA (Plan), World Vision Inc (World Vision), Enda Sahel/Afrique de l'Ouest (EVE), and Enda Santé. The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through a Cooperative Agreement (AID-685-A-11-00005). The project's progress is reported on a quarterly basis, with this report covering the period from October to December 2015. The report provides an overview of the project's activities, achievements, and challenges during this period.
