PACR of the Mauritanian activities of a regional project to support small self-help development efforts by communities.

Abstract
The report covers the period 3/88-6/93. The project funded 138 activities during its 6-year life, including construction of health clinics, women's centers, wells, dams, mills, irrigation systems, pumps, protective fencing, schools, dormitories, storage facilities, and buildings for cooperatives. Some activities were done in cooperation with the Peace Corps. The project also financed the purchase of gardening tools and supplies, school equipment, pumps, mill machinery, construction materials, and sewing machines. Funding for individual activities ranged from $1,000 to $12,000. Villages and communities in the following regions received assistance: Adrar, Assaba, Brakna, Gorgol, Guidimakha, Hodh El Chargui, Hodh El Gharbi, Inchiri, Nouadhibou, Nouakchott, Ouadane, Tagant, and Trarza. Due to the nature of these small projects, no evaluations were conducted.
