Abstract
The project will also continue to support capacity building of the Ministry of Education (MoE). The LMG Afghanistan program is an 18-month intervention starting in September 1, 2012, and extending to January 31, 2014, with a total budget of $25,400,800. The project has received an 8-month extension, with associated additional funding of approximately $4 million. The program's objectives include strengthening the leadership and management capacity of the MoPH, improving health systems, and enhancing the quality of health services. The LMG Afghanistan program will focus on key areas such as leadership development, management strengthening, and governance improvement. The project will also support the development of a strategic communications plan to promote the program's achievements and impact. During the trip from January 18-30, 2014, the Communications Manager, Laura Lartigue, provided technical assistance to the LMG-AF project in the field of communication. The trip objectives included developing and improving communications materials, training staff, and conducting key interviews for case studies. The Communications Manager conducted interviews with LMG-AF and MoPH officials to understand internal and external communications issues and concerns. The trip accomplishments included conducting a successful video interview with the Minister of Health in Afghanistan, Dr. Suraya Dalil, and providing individual support to LMG-AF staff on completion of deliverables listed in the LMG-AF Communications Action Plan. The Communications Manager also held a communications seminar for staff of the LMG, TB Care, and SPS Projects and provided one-on-one support and counsel on communications matters to LMG-AF staff. The next steps for the project include completing two written deliverables: a 2-4-page briefing paper on Community-Based Health Care (CBHC) and a briefing paper on MSH support to health leadership in Afghanistan. The project will also continue to support the development of a strategic communications plan and promote the program's achievements and impact through various channels. The LMG-AF project has made significant progress in strengthening the leadership and management capacity of the MoPH, improving health systems, and enhancing the quality of health services.
