Rural telecommunications in Tanzania

The project will: (1) provide the resources and support necessary to attract a U.S. telecommunications firm to come to Tanzanian and establish a joint venture or similar relationship with an indigenous partner company; and (2) resolve pertinent regulatory and procedural constraints. Regarding the latter, the project will work with the Tanzania Telecommunications Commission to obtain licensing for a private rural telecommunications service provider, with the Tanzania Telecommunications Company Ltd to provide the interconnections and other facilitative business relationships necessary to achieve a minimum level of feasibility, and with a variety of Tanzanian institutions to provide the routine regulatory and procedural clearances needed to approve a new investment and establish a new business.
