USAID. BUR. FOR AFRICA. OFC. OF SOUTHERN AFRICAN AFFAIRS
Project to strengthen the regional development planning and programming capability of the Southern African Development Coordination Conference"s (SADCC) Secretariat and of select SADCC member states.
1970

Abstract
The project will help SADCC entities of the Governments of Swaziland, Malawi, and Lesotho implement efforts in priority sectors and will establish SADCC Secretariat study groups for macro-economic and trade analyses. The project will assist the SADCC Regional Training Council (RTC) of the Government of Swaziland by: providing short-term TA to help the RTC conduct new education sector studies; supporting annual meetings of technical experts; and by funding travel to member states by key RTC staff. The provision of data processing hardware and software - to be located at the University of Swaziland - and of the services of a documentation specialist will help the RTC compile an inventory of regional training programs. Essentially the same kinds of assistance will be provided to the SADCC Fisheries Administrative Support Unit (FASU) of the Government of Malawi. Funds will be provided to host four of the nine 2-week seminars/workshops proposed by the SADCC Soil and Water Conservation and Land Utilization Coordination Unit of the Government of Lesotho. The project will also finance four technical studies on themes emanating from the seminars, as well as a newsletter to be published by the Coordination Unit. Finally, the project will help the SADCC establish part-time study groups for economic analysis and for trade analysis and will finance two SADCC cross-sectoral technical feasibility studies per year.
