Abstract
An A.I.D. grant to UNDP/UNCTAD will fund a total of 171 person-months of long- and short-term TA, resulting in the following outputs: (1) standardized, simplified transmit documents and transmit procedures (all SADCC countries); (2) bilateral and subregional transportation transit agreements (all SADCC countries); (3) adequate road, rail, and port facilities and efficient related services (especially maintenance) and trained operators (all SADCC countries); (4) feasibility studies for four key ports (not specified); (5) improved cargo tracking systems (Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique); (6-7) updated transport sector analyses and transport corridor studies for use in program planning (Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho); (8) establishment of dry port facilities in landlocked countries (Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe); and (9) well-coordinated institutional framework for transit transport activities (Tanzania, Botswana). The UNDP will provide project management and support, equipment and commodity support, and support in the areas of transmit systems analysis, data processing, manpower development, port management, macroeconomic analysis, and road, rail, road haulage, and air transport operations.
