Abstract
The CIDERE program assists local cooperatives and other groups to establish innovative enterprises, using previously unutilized industrial by-products and natural resources. Examples of CIDERE projects include frog production, berry and rose hip cultivation, extraction of resin from pine trees, use of sawdust as a fuel, mushroom collection, plastic greenhouses, and the collection and polishing of semi-precious stones. A.I.D. funds will assist CIDERE process and put into operation a backlog of 23 projects. Feasibility studies will be conducted, prototypes will be constructed, and technical assistance will be provided to small industries. A.I.D. funds will also help keep CIDERE financially solvent in view of its proposed expansion into three new areas.
