Abstract
STUDIES INVOLVE DEVELOPMENT OF IMPROVED, ECONOMICALLY RELIABLE FOOD CROPPING SYSTEMS, MEANS OF IMPROVING UTILIZATION OF NUTRIENTS FOR FOOD CROPS, AND DEVELOPMENT OF FAVORABLE SOIL ENVIRONMENT FOR GROWTH OF ROOT SYSTEM. WORK CARRIED ON IN PUERTO RICO, BRAZIL, GHANA INDICATES HIGH PRODUCTION POTENTIAL CANNOT BE ACHIEVED BY ANY SINGLE PRACTICE. PROJECT SEEKS TO DEFINE FERTILITY FACTORS AND DEVELOPS MEANS OF PREDICTING LIMITING FACTORS SO PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS CAN BE MADE WITHOUT EXHAUSTIVE FIELD TRIALS. DESIGNS COMPLEX PACKAGE OF PRACTICES FROM MANY DISCIPLINES.
