Abstract
The department's primary objective is to maintain a clean and environmentally sound environment for citizens. To achieve this goal, the Directorate of Sanitation has established a standard operating procedure (SOP) that outlines roles, responsibilities, and procedures for solid waste collection activities. The SOP defines the Directorate of Sanitation's scope of work, which includes general cleaning within municipal limits, special cleanliness arrangements during events and holidays, and removal of carcasses of sacrificed animals on Eid ul Azha. The department is also responsible for clearing canals and streams in coordination with other government agencies and issuing notices on littering and abuse of water. Additionally, the Directorate of Sanitation monitors and supervises the functioning of public toilets in different sectors of Kabul. The SOP emphasizes the importance of effective waste management in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The department's efforts aim to reduce the burden of trash on the municipality and the environment, which is exacerbated by the city's rapid growth and increasing population. By implementing this SOP, the Directorate of Sanitation seeks to bring about positive changes to the operations and environment of the Kabul Municipality. The SOP is applicable to all solid waste collection activities in the municipality and is expected to have a positive impact on the city's environment and operations. The department's efforts will focus on ensuring that citizens live in a clean and environmentally sound environment, which is essential for the well-being and quality of life of the population. Implementation of the SOP will involve the Directorate of Sanitation working closely with other government agencies, including the Environment Wing, Directorate of Roads, and Directorate of Maintenance, CDA. The department will also engage with citizens to raise awareness about the importance of waste management and encourage their participation in maintaining a clean environment. By working together, the Directorate of Sanitation aims to achieve its objectives and create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for the citizens of Kabul.
