Abstract
One of the program's principal goals is to improve Georgia's energy security through sound long-term planning and governance, increased private investment in indigenous renewable energy, and building the capacity of Georgian institutions to effectively manage domestic energy management. The program will support the further development of Georgia's energy sector into an open, regionally integrated, and market-driven system. The program's objectives include improving energy system planning, increasing investment in the energy sector, and improving governance and operations of a well-functioning Georgian energy market. Additionally, the program aims to reduce cybersecurity vulnerabilities by strengthening the resilience of energy sector stakeholders and safeguarding the national economy. To achieve these objectives, the program has established an energy planning curriculum at Georgian universities, including Kutaisi International University (KIU). The curriculum will focus on creating opportunities for women to participate in the program, particularly in areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and innovative technologies like hydrogen and carbon capture. KIU has modernized its syllabus for the "Principles of Project Management" by integrating energy-related content and case studies. The program team conducted regular meetings and brainstorming sessions with KIU's faculty to infuse the earlier curriculum with modern and innovative approaches to teaching. The updated syllabus will provide a sound basis for understanding the energy value chain and offer an introduction to its practical functioning. The updated syllabus includes energy-focused case studies that provide insights into the complexities of the Georgian energy sector. These case studies serve a dual purpose, extending beyond theory and providing real-world examples specific to Georgia. The tailored student-friendly syllabus will encourage future bachelor's students to pursue higher studies in the energy field and advance research, innovation, and partnerships that can drive new approaches to energy sector issues. The program's support to KIU in modernizing its syllabus for the "Principles of Project Management" has resulted in a comprehensive and innovative curriculum that addresses the needs of the energy sector in Georgia. The updated syllabus will provide students with a solid foundation in project management skills and knowledge of the energy value chain, preparing them for careers in the energy sector. The program's objectives and outcomes are aligned with the USAID Securing Georgia's Energy Future Program's goals and priorities. The program's success will contribute to the development of a well-functioning and resilient energy market in Georgia, reducing the country's susceptibility to malign influence and improving its energy security.
