USAID. MISSION TO EGYPT
Project to enable the Egyptian Electricity Authority"s (EEA) Talkha gas turbine generating plant to operate as a combined-cycle plant and thereby recycle thermal energy that is currently being lost.
1986
Abstract
Project components include: design and construction of a nominal 110 MW thermal cycle addition for the Talkha plant; and rehabilitation of 8 existing gas turbines through replacement of the hot gas path components. Rehabilitation of the existing turbines will result in a 5% increase in output and a 3% improvement in heat rate, and the thermal cycle addition will produce an additional 106 MW of electric energy when these turbines are generating full output. EEA will implement the project through a contract with Gilbert Associates, Inc. (GAI). GAI will provide conceptual design parameters, cost estimates, and construction supervision and will assist EEA in administering a turnkey contract with General Electric; the latter will be responsible for detailed design, supply and installation of equipment, and testing and start-up to the completed plant. The Talkha plant was constructed under A.I.D. project 2630008.
