TB CARE I in Ethiopia achieved significant progress in various technical areas during the second half of 2013.

Abstract
The initiative, led by KNCV, focused on improving TB services and reducing patient and service delivery delays. Key activities included training programs for health extension workers, laboratory professionals, and community-based organizations. In the Universal and Early Access technical area, 96% of planned activities were completed. Training programs for health extension workers and community-based organizations were conducted, with a total of 305 participants trained. The initiative also supported the establishment of regional TB media forums, with 33 members from Oromia region participating in the first workshop. In the Laboratories technical area, 97% of planned activities were completed. Training programs for laboratory professionals were conducted, with a total of 6 females and 72 males trained in AFB microscopy and EQA. The initiative also supported the distribution of 40 microscopes and related items to sites, with 16 handed over to Tigray regional lab. In the Infection Control technical area, 99% of planned activities were completed. Training programs for health care workers were conducted, with a total of 4 prisons in Oromia region participating. The initiative also supported the renovation of TB rooms in 4 sites, with all sites renovated and handed over. In the PMDT technical area, 93% of planned activities were completed. Training programs for health care workers were conducted, with a total of 4 prisons in Oromia region participating. The initiative also supported the implementation of TB screening in prisons, with HCWs trained in 4 prisons. The initiative also made progress in other technical areas, including TB/HIV, Health Systems Strengthening, and M&E, OR and Surveillance. Overall, 94% of the work plan was completed during the second half of 2013.
