Abstract
The program is supported by the USAID and aims to improve TB control in the region. In Kyrgyzstan, TB CARE I is implemented in select geographic areas, including the capital city Bishkek and Issyk-Kul oblast. The program focuses on four technical areas: Universal and Early Access, Laboratories, Infection Control, and Health System Strengthening. In the Universal and Early Access area, TB CARE I worked on improving TB control in prisons and introducing international recommendations on childhood TB. The program also provided technical assistance for the development of a national GeneXpert strategy and the implementation of the new diagnostic tool. In the Laboratories area, TB CARE I provided training for 14 participants from all regions of Kyrgyzstan on modern laboratory management policy and practice. The program also conducted a refresher training course on the use of GeneXpert in Yssyk-Ata district of Chui Oblast. In the Infection Control area, TB CARE I developed TB IC guidelines and conducted a training of trainers on infection control for infection control specialists from TB facilities, prisons, Postgraduate Institute, and SES. The program also provided technical assistance on the development of MDR TB guidelines and TB in Children guidelines. TB CARE I collaborated with the National TB Program, Ministries of Health, Internal Affairs, Justice, Labor and Social Defense, Prison Service, and other country stakeholders to ensure proper coordination and effective allocation of resources. TB CARE I achieved several notable outcomes during the first year of implementation. The joint plan for TB control in prison and general TB services was developed by a working group under TB CARE I leadership. A working group was established to promote the development and piloting of an outpatient model of care in Bishkek city. The program also facilitated the development of a national GeneXpert strategy and the implementation of the new diagnostic tool. The program also made progress in the Infection Control area, developing TB IC guidelines and conducting a training of trainers on infection control. TB CARE I provided technical assistance on the development of MDR TB guidelines and TB in Children guidelines. The program also collaborated with the National TB Program, Ministries of Health, Internal Affairs, Justice, Labor and Social Defense, Prison Service, and other country stakeholders to ensure proper coordination and effective allocation of resources. TB CARE I's achievements in the Universal Access area include the development of a joint plan for TB control in prison and general TB services and the establishment of a working group to promote the development and piloting of an outpatient model of care. The program also made progress in the Laboratories area, providing training for 14 participants from all regions of Kyrgyzstan on modern laboratory management policy and practice. The program's achievements in the Infection Control area include the development of TB IC guidelines and the conduct of a training of trainers on infection control. TB CARE I also provided technical assistance on the development of MDR TB guidelines and TB in Children guidelines. The program's achievements in the Health System Strengthening area include the development of a new country National TB Program and the provision of professional development opportunities for four TB professionals from NTP, regional, and Prison TB services. TB CARE I's collaboration with the National TB Program, Ministries of Health, Internal Affairs, Justice, Labor and Social Defense, Prison Service, and other country stakeholders ensured proper coordination and effective allocation of resources. The program's achievements demonstrate its commitment to improving TB control in Kyrgyzstan and its ability to work effectively with local stakeholders to achieve its goals.
