Abstract
The policy applies to all individuals associated with the project, including board members, staff, community volunteers, partners, contractors, and donors. The policy's scope is to ensure the safety and protection of children and adolescents, particularly those who are vulnerable due to their HIV status, disability, or other factors. The policy is based on six key principles: equity, non-discrimination, inclusiveness, development, do no harm, and the best interests of the child. These principles guide the project's actions and decisions, ensuring that children and adolescents are treated with respect, dignity, and fairness. The policy also emphasizes the importance of promoting the protection of children and adolescents, and not shielding anyone from disciplinary or legal proceedings in cases of child abuse. The policy outlines procedures for safeguarding children, including conducting reference checks, obtaining police checks, providing information on the Child Safeguarding policy, and identifying a Child Safeguarding Focal Point. Meetings with children and adolescents are to be held in public places, and guests visiting ZAMFAM sites must be accompanied by community volunteers or partners. Information about children and adolescents enrolled in the program is to be kept confidential, and consent must be obtained from children and adolescents or their guardians before taking pictures of them. In the event of a complaint of abuse, the policy requires that it be reported immediately to the Provincial Focal Point Person or the District Focal Point Person, who will then escalate the report to the police and ZAMFAM senior management. The policy also emphasizes the importance of taking allegations of child abuse seriously and responding promptly to protect the child from further potential abuse or victimization. The policy requires that all partners provide information on abuse prominently and educate children and adolescents on abuse. Boxes where children and adolescents can report will be placed in each site where ZAMFAM works with or associates with children and adolescents. The policy also emphasizes the importance of confidentiality and the need to obtain consent from children and adolescents or their guardians before taking pictures of them. The Zambia Family Activity Project's Child Safeguarding Policy is a critical component of the project's efforts to protect children and adolescents from abuse, exploitation, neglect, and violence. The policy's emphasis on promoting the protection of children and adolescents, and not shielding anyone from disciplinary or legal proceedings in cases of child abuse, demonstrates the project's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the children and adolescents it serves. The policy's procedures for safeguarding children, including conducting reference checks, obtaining police checks, and providing information on the Child Safeguarding policy, demonstrate the project's commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of children and adolescents. The policy's emphasis on confidentiality and the need to obtain consent from children and adolescents or their guardians before taking pictures of them also demonstrates the project's commitment to respecting the rights and dignity of the children and adolescents it serves.
