USAID. BUR. FOR LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN. REGIONAL OFC. FOR CENTRAL AMERICAN PROGRAMS (ROCAP)
Grant is provided to Agua del Pueblo (People"s Consultants, Inc.)
1978
Abstract
to conduct feasibility studies in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica to determine Central American interest in and need for rural potable water supply technicians. Aqua del Pueblo will determine the demand for rural water technicians for each of the above countries, and, in the countries where a demand exists, will determine the acceptability of the rural water technician concept to local institutions. In those countries where both need and acceptability exist, potential employers and training institutions will be identified and evaluated. For each country that will train rural water technicians (either independently or jointly with other countries in the region), it will be determined to what extent and in which aspects the Guatemalan rural water technician program can be used as a model, and a report will be submitted which will include utilization, training, status, and recommended action. Also, for each country that will train rural water technicians, an analysis of the cooperating country and village level institutions" financial abilities to cover salaries of trained personnel and costs of water projects will be prepared. USAID financing will provide for project directors (11 man-months), a project subdirector (two man-months), secretarial and bookkeeping personnel, consultant fees, and office rental and supplies. Agua del Pueblo will provide 20 man-days of consulting and some office and instructional equipment. Participating host governments will provide 20 man-days of professional personnel along with support services for these professionals.
