Abstract
The main objective of the scholarship is to give young students coming from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds in the 26 districts of Lebanon access to high-quality college education. The scholarship covers all enrolled students' fees, including tuition, housing, books, a laptop, and stipends for up to five years. During their stay at AUB, the students will have to maintain a good academic status while being involved in community service projects and internship work outside AUB in fields related to their majors. The program's academic focus is on ensuring that students maintain a good academic standing. The Academic Monitor and Program Coordinator individually verified the students' schedules, registration progress, and graduation plans. The students' academic enrollment for the Fall 2015-2016 and Spring 2016 semesters was completed toward the beginning of each academic semester. The students' academic standing for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 was also monitored, with several problematic cases identified due to poor academic performance or students' time management skills. The students' academic performance was tracked, and the Academic Monitor and Program Coordinator provided support to students who were struggling. The students' academic standing for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 was also monitored, with several students achieving Dean's Honor List status. The students' registered credits during the Spring 2016 semester were also tracked, with some students registering more credits than others. The program's community engagement component was also a key focus area. The students were required to participate in community service projects and internship work outside AUB in fields related to their majors. However, some students faced challenges in completing their volunteering activities, approving their arranged volunteering work, introducing their community service projects, and engaging in the newly launched orientation sessions as part of special events. These challenges were addressed through support and guidance provided by the Academic Monitor and Program Coordinator. The program's overall goal is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits. The program's focus on academic performance, community engagement, and personal development is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a positive impact in their communities. The program's success is measured through the students' academic performance, community engagement, and personal development. The program's data shows that a total of 66 students were enrolled in the program as of December 2015, with 65 students enrolled as of the beginning of the Spring 2016 semester. The program's cumulative number of scholars who graduated by the end of the reporting period was 15, with 2 scholars dropping out during the reporting period. The program's total cumulative number of scholars who dropped out during the reporting period was 5, with 10 scholars transferring to other programs. The program's data also shows that the students' academic performance improved over the course of the program. The students' average GPA increased from 2.5 to 3.0, with some students achieving Dean's Honor List status. The program's community engagement component also showed positive results, with students participating in community service projects and internship work outside AUB in fields related to their majors. Overall, the University Scholarship Program (USP) 5 has been successful in providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits. The program's focus on academic performance, community engagement, and personal development has equipped students with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a positive impact in their communities.
