Unmet need at the end of the century

Estimates are based on data from Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) carried out in the last decade of the twentieth century. In 33 of the countries, more than one survey has been conducted, which permits the assessment of recent trends in unmet need. Levels and trends of unmet need among never-married women are documented for 14 of the 22 sub-Saharan countries. The report also extends the analysis of unmet need by disaggregating it by whether contraception was used in the past and by whether there is an intention to use a method in the future.
