Abstract
A total of 30 physicians and 30 nurses from 15 MOH hospitals throughout Peru will receive training at the ORT unit of Cayetano Heredia Hospital in 15 2-week clinical courses. In addition, 10 workshops will be conducted for senior level MOH and hospital personnel and medical/nursing school faculties. A curriculum and appropriate training materials (3 newsletters, one video tape, and one set of teaching slides) will be developed and tested for use in training personnel of hospitals and health centers. The materials development will take place in connection with training programs for four physicians and four nurses at two Lima area health centers. Diagnostic and baseline data will be gathered by UPCH supervisors during some 15 pre-training visits and an equal number of post-training visits will be made to follow-up with trainees and to assist them and/or others in developing up to 15 regional diarrhea rehydration units and at least one regional training center.
