Abstract
The project aims to provide care and support to individuals with severe disabilities, focusing on improving their quality of life and promoting their independence. The project has been implemented in 22 communes across four districts in Binh Dinh and Quang Nam provinces. As of June 2021, the project has supported 630 persons with severe disabilities, with 580 still in the follow-up list and 50 cases removed due to death, relocation, or self-care. The project team tracks the progress of these individuals, analyzing care performance, engagement of male caregivers, and progress made by persons with disabilities after a 12-month intervention. Caregivers have received training or coaching from the project, with 62.5% following more than 75% of the care plan and 24% following partially. The majority of caregivers are elderly individuals who lack planning skills and planning skills. Assessment of care performance and ADL function of persons with disabilities for progress made after refresh training 2 shows that around 20.8% of persons with disabilities have demonstrated improvement in ADL ability and function. ADL performance in all project sites was stable in the first six months, then slightly decreased in the next period. Mobility performance witnessed a slow improvement, but it is understandable due to the mobility challenges faced by persons with severe disabilities. Comparing the results of HBC care in ADL functions of the PWDs pre-refresh training and post-refresh training among 630 PWDs, the percentage of persons who can self-perform functions increased from 6.01% to 7.07%, and a similar change occurred in those who depend totally on others. The project has made significant progress in improving the quality of life of persons with severe disabilities. However, challenges remain, particularly in engaging male caregivers in care support and promoting the independence of persons with disabilities. Recommendations for the project include increasing the engagement of male caregivers in care support and promoting the independence of persons with disabilities.
