Abstract
The portal aims to educate the general public about USAID's food assistance programs, provide background and context on USAID's efforts to improve the nutrition and quality of the food aid commodity basket, and provide guidance for Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs) and other stakeholders to inform their FFP proposal development process. The portal encompasses the section of the USAID FFP website related to food aid products programmed in FFP programs. The current portal design includes resources such as commodity fact sheets, implementation tools, and product information from the World Food Programme and commercial industry suppliers. However, the portal's structure and content have been criticized for being outdated and repetitive, with some information being out of date. A landscape analysis of the portal was conducted by the Food Aid Quality Review (FAQR) Phase III to assess the portal's structure and content and determine preliminary redesign recommendations. The analysis included an overview of the portal, analysis by portal section, review and analysis of World Food Programme product information, and review and analysis of suppliers and commercial industry product information. The analysis found that the portal's current design is not user-friendly and does not provide succinct and usable information. The portal's navigation is also not intuitive, making it difficult for users to access relevant information. The analysis recommended that the portal be updated to improve navigation, eliminate outdated or repetitive information, and bring the portal in line with the latest product, programming, and procurement information from USAID. The recommended new portal design includes a streamlined structure to easily navigate to and access information. It will incorporate new or updated tools and resources related to food aid products, programming, and research. The new portal will also have a design that reflects the modernized food aid basket and be nimble enough to adapt to the continuing evolution of food aid products and program needs. The USAID Food for Peace Commodities Resource Portal is a critical resource for stakeholders involved in food aid programs, including PVOs, government agencies, and international organizations. The portal's updates will improve the accessibility and usability of information on USAID's food aid programs and products, ultimately contributing to more effective and efficient food aid efforts. The landscape analysis was conducted as part of the FAQR Phase III project, which is managed by Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. The project aims to improve the quality of USAID's food aid products and programs, and the portal updates are a key component of this effort. The recommended new portal design will be shared with stakeholders for feedback and finalization, and will be implemented in the coming months. The USAID Food for Peace Commodities Resource Portal is a critical resource for stakeholders involved in food aid programs, and its updates will improve the accessibility and usability of information on USAID's food aid programs and products. The recommended new portal design will provide a more user-friendly and intuitive interface, making it easier for users to access relevant information and navigate the portal.
