Abstract
Following the no-cost extension that ended in Q1 FY2021, USAID and FUNADEH agreed to a one-year cost-extension to focus on the sustainability of the Youth Outreach Centers network, which was jeopardized due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the two hurricanes that struck Honduras in November 2020. The extension, valued at $600,000, aims to concentrate on Objective 1: OC networks consolidated through multi-sectoral alliances to increase protective factors for target beneficiaries and promote a culture of peace. The four expected results of the extension are: 1) Recovery and sustainability of the OC platform, 2) Facilitation of the institutional development of the new ALCANCE Association, 3) Catalyzing humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the 2020 hurricanes, and 4) Advancing the use of inclusive digital technologies and secure digital ecosystems. During the second quarter of FY 2021 (January - March), GENESIS achieved 103 percent scheduling efficiency and 96 percent cost efficiency, indicating that the planned work was completed on time, and the actual cost of the work performed had a variance of 4 percent. GENESIS has successfully initiated the new extension, starting December 2020, with intense collaboration with the ALCANCE Association and continuous efforts in the deployment of humanitarian aid for the most affected communities. The alternative education programs, such as EDUCATEH, have made strong efforts to ensure substantial enrollment of the 2021 academic year, while CISCO and Technological Academies have confronted the inability to afford course fees in the communities, offering free courses and leveraging new allies in academic institutions to pay for academy operations. Key achievements this quarter include the reopening of 56 OCs to in-person activities throughout the country, in compliance with biosafety measures. Additionally, UNICEF awarded GENESIS the "Brindando Esperanza" project, a $97,800, four-month grant to assist surviving families affected by hurricanes Eta and Iota through psychosocial support and family counseling in seven municipalities. GENESIS also solidified six Strategic Alliances, including the Napoleon Larach Foundation, which contributed economically to the implementation of the EDUCATEH program during 2021, and EDUBOX, which agreed to donate access to their administrative platform. The project is closely monitoring indicators to maintain effective programmatic and financial performance. GENESIS is committed to achieving the expected results and ensuring the sustainability of the Youth Outreach Centers network. The project's focus on humanitarian assistance, digital technologies, and institutional development is expected to have a positive impact on the target beneficiaries and promote a culture of peace in the communities affected by the 2020 hurricanes.
