Abstract
The project aimed to improve the quality of education in the Mekong region, with a focus on Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) implemented the project, which was funded by the United States Agency for International Development Regional Development Mission for Asia (USAID/RDMA). The project's primary objective was to enhance the capacity of local education institutions to provide high-quality education and training programs. To achieve this goal, EDC worked closely with local partners to develop and implement a range of interventions, including teacher training, curriculum development, and infrastructure improvement. The project also focused on promoting girls' education and increasing access to education for disadvantaged groups. One of the key outcomes of the project was the improvement in employment opportunities for young people in the Mekong region. According to the project's endline results, 18.7% of participants reported new employment, while 24.2% reported better employment. In contrast, 10.1% reported lost employment, and 53.1% reported no change or other outcomes. These results suggest that the project had a positive impact on the employment prospects of young people in the region. The project also made significant progress in promoting girls' education. According to the project's data, the percentage of girls enrolled in secondary education increased from 45.6% to 54.1% during the project period. Similarly, the percentage of girls enrolled in vocational training increased from 21.1% to 31.4%. These results indicate that the project was successful in promoting girls' education and increasing their access to education and training opportunities. The project's impact was also evident in the improvement in education outcomes. According to the project's data, the percentage of students achieving satisfactory scores in mathematics and reading increased from 55.1% to 65.6% during the project period. Similarly, the percentage of students achieving satisfactory scores in science increased from 51.9% to 62.1%. These results suggest that the project had a positive impact on education outcomes in the Mekong region.
