Abstract
Sherman is a Senior Manager at the General Services Department/Risk and Coordination of the Liberia Electricity Corporation. Born and raised in Liberia, Sherron was motivated to contribute to her country's development after the devastating civil crisis in 2003. She initially pursued a degree in construction technology at the Stella Maris Polytechnic, which led to an internship at the Liberia Electricity Corporation in 2011. Sherron's career at LEC progressed, and she became the only female engineer in the project implementation unit for the rehabilitation of the Mt. Coffee hydropower plant. She worked in a rural part of Liberia for two years to ensure energy supply to various areas. In 2018, Sherron was seconded as LEC representative on the Liberia Focal Team for the St. Paul River Energy Generation Project. She later took on the role of acting manager of the General Services Department, overseeing a team of over 100 people. Sherron's leadership approach emphasizes building genuine relationships with her team members. She recognizes that positions come and go, but relationships stay. Her team's confidence in her led to her permanent appointment as manager. Sherron continues to encourage and challenge those around her to grow the sector, particularly for women. She uses her lunch breaks to mentor local youth and has been doing so since November 2021. Sherron's advice to women pursuing a similar career is to be bold and aim high. She subscribes to the idea that if one's dream doesn't scare them, they aren't dreaming big enough. Sherron's own daughter is encouraged to be curious, explore, and not be limited by her gender. Sherron's commitment to her work, country, family, and others has led her to various opportunities, and she continues to make a positive impact in the energy sector. Sherron's career trajectory is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She has overcome barriers and defied stereotypes in a male-dominated field.
