Effectiveness of Referrals and Commission Sharing between Sanitation Promoters and Masons in USHA’s Market Based Sanitation Implementation Approach (MBSIA)

The model had actors such as trained masons providing sanitation (toilet building) services and local sanitation entrepreneurs who stocked products. To activate demand for the mason’s services, the network model includes a cadre of sanitation promoters (SPs) who are provided a small monthly stipend to visit households and make sales pitches and referrals to the masons. This brief describes the process and effeciveness of this model.
