Building Blocks of a Circular Economy: USAID's Approach to Reducing Ocean Plastic Pollution

It highlights the importance of a circular economy in reducing plastic waste and presents five building blocks for preventing additional plastic pollution: data-driven policy and institutional environments, increased infrastructure investment and improved solid waste services, developed markets for locally viable innovations and technologies, widespread and sustained behavior change, and an inclusive and equitable system that integrates all members along the solid waste management value chain. The document provides examples of successful programs and initiatives implemented in various countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and the Dominican Republic.
