Case Study: Extended Producer Responsibility in Sri Lanka

The study highlights the challenges faced by Sri Lanka in managing plastic waste and the efforts of USAID's Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program to establish a voluntary EPR system. The program brought together government, private sector, and civil society stakeholders to develop a framework for EPR, including a reporting system and material recovery facilities. The study shares key recommendations for developing and implementing EPR systems, including the importance of public-private partnerships, data collection, and incentivization.
