2023

Abstract
The study focuses on the Philippines, where approximately 2.7 million metric tons of plastic waste are generated, with only 9% successfully recycled. The document highlights two local grantees, the Plastic Credit Exchange (PCX) and Communities Organized for Resource Allocation (CORA), and their innovative approaches to reducing plastic waste and promoting circular economies. The study showcases the impact of these initiatives, including the diversion of recyclable materials, strengthening of local recycling systems, community engagement, and empowerment of women. The document concludes with key recommendations for establishing successful recycling models, including providing financial planning and business training, offering financial incentives, ensuring end markets are sufficient and pricing is competitive, and engaging public and private stakeholders throughout the project.
