Abstract

The presentation discusses the importance of maintaining the quality of uterotonics, specifically oxytocin, in preventing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) in Mali. It highlights the challenges faced in scaling up the use of oxytocin, including the safety and feasibility of midwifery assistants practicing Active Management of the Third Stage of Labor (AMTSL) and the supply and stocking of uterotonic drugs at different levels of the health pyramid. The presentation also covers the cost of poor-quality oxytocin, oxytocin quality issues throughout the health supply chain, and the availability and storage of oxytocin in Mali. Additionally, it presents key actions implemented by the Malian Ministry of Health to improve the availability and quality of uterotonics.
