USAID, USAID Nawiri · 2022

Abstract
The study aimed to identify practical approaches to extend dry season lactation in milking animals and increase milk availability in households with children under the age of 5 and women of childbearing age. The brief explores the importance of milk in pastoralist nutrition, particularly in providing essential nutrients, and discusses the efficacy of three approaches to increasing milk production: Resilience Design, fodder production, and species and breed improvement. The document also highlights the pathways to milk availability and consumption, including the cultural significance of milk in the two counties and the challenges of maintaining a year-round supply of milk.
