The document is a report on a randomized controlled trial that investigated the impact of treating moderately malnourished women in pregnancy.
2017

Abstract
The study, known as the Mamachiponde study, was conducted in rural Malawi and involved 1,828 pregnant women who received either a ready-to-use supplementary food (RUSF) or a fortified corn-soy blend (CSB+) along with a daily multiple micronutrient antenatal supplement (UNIMMAP) or a daily iron and folic acid (IFA) tablet. The study found that RUSF improved gestational weight gain during treatment for moderate malnutrition more than CSB+ with UNIMMAP, and that the incidence of newborns with birth weight <2.4 kg was lowest in the CSB+ with IFA group. The report presents the study's methodology, results, and conclusions, including subgroup analyses of HIV-infected women and their infants.
