Abstract
The survey focused on the Mono region, which showed distinct health and demographic indicators compared to the national average. In the Mono region, 18% of women in union used a modern family planning method, compared to 12% for the entire country. Implants were the most frequently used modern method (9% in the Mono region). Education levels in the Mono region were lower than the national average. 44% of women in the region had no formal education, compared to 55% for the entire country. Similarly, 18% of men in the region had no formal education, compared to 36% for the entire country. The Mono region had a high vaccination coverage, with 71% of children aged 12-23 months having received all basic vaccines at some point before the survey. The region also showed a high rate of maternal and child health services. 96% of births in the Mono region took place in a healthcare facility, compared to 84% for the entire country. 75% of mothers and 70% of newborns in the region received postnatal care within two days of birth. Violence against women was a significant concern in the Mono region. 44% of women in union or in a dissolved union reported experiencing emotional, physical, or sexual violence from their partner. The region also had a high rate of child mortality, with 36 deaths per 1,000 live births over the 10-year period before the survey. The survey also found that 83% of households, 87% of children under 5, and 91% of pregnant women in the Mono region slept under a bed net the night before. The average woman in the region had 5.7 children over her reproductive lifetime, similar to the national average. The Mono region had a high rate of coverage for basic vaccines, with 97% of children aged 12-23 months having received the BCG vaccine, 95% having received the anti-tetanus toxoid vaccine, and 91% having received the DTC-HepB-Hib vaccine. The region also had a high rate of utilization of modern family planning methods, with 23% of women in union using some form of modern method, compared to 16% for the entire country.
