Abstract
The project aims to support the implementation of the Government of Kosovo Action Plan for Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) through education. The project is implemented by UNDP Kosovo in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The project's key objectives include creating and implementing PVE curricula manuals for lower and upper secondary school students, establishing PVE policy guidelines within the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and supporting the development of a monitoring and evaluation framework for PVE activities. The project also aims to promote a whole-school approach to PVE and support the implementation of the Protocol for Prevention and Referral of Violence in Institutions of Pre-University Education. In Phase II, which spans from April 2019 to April 2020, the project has achieved several indicators, including the creation of one set of training materials for teacher training, two Teaching Peace and Building Resilience curricula manuals designed and translated, and two school assessments conducted. The project has also made progress towards achieving these indicators, including the development of a program of training and gathering materials for creation of the teacher training, the design and translation of the curricula manuals, and the conduct of school assessments in eight pilot schools in four municipalities. The project has also planned several activities for the next phase, including the submission of the curricula manuals to the Permanent Secretary for certification, the holding of a Consortium meeting to present the curricula manuals and plan next steps for teacher training, and the conduct of further school assessments and development of school action plans on PVE. The project's geographic focus is on Kosovo, with a specific emphasis on the municipalities of Prizren, Gjilan/Gnjilane, Kaçanik/Kačanik, and Prishtinë/Priština. The project's timeframes are from April 2018 to April 2020, with a focus on Phase II activities from April 2019 to April 2020. The project's implementation details include the support of a PVE Technical Specialist, who has worked closely with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and other stakeholders to achieve the project's objectives. The project has also received support from ForumZFD, a regional NGO that has provided funding for the design and translation of the curricula manuals. Overall, the Education for Prevention-Advisory Services to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Kosovo is a critical project that aims to support the implementation of the Government of Kosovo Action Plan for CVE and PVE through education. The project's achievements and planned activities demonstrate its commitment to promoting a culture of peace and resilience in Kosovo's schools and communities.
