Abstract
The program aimed to provide conventional and accelerated learning in safe, quality teaching and learning environments. The MOE formally approved the 'one school approach,' with the development of an official statement signed off by the MOE. This strategy supports the provision of ALP-CS across the original 264 ALP sites. The Activity intensified targeted coaching and mentoring support, as well as joint visits, to build knowledge, skills, and confidence for continued implementation of ALP. This strategy prioritized targeted monitoring, mentoring, and coaching visits to ABE Coordinators and Supervisors and Principals. The Activity compiled a series of Teacher Professional Development (TPD) mini-modules to be used for ALP training by the MOE, education partners, and stakeholders. These modules will be used to plan and implement high-quality TPD in the future. In consultation with the Liberia School for the Blind (LSB), the technical team designed a two-day orientation for the LSB. The structure of the training centered around the core Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, which ensured familiarization of participants with Accelerated Learning Principles (ALP) and their application in Inclusive Education (IE) policy and practice. The finalization of the Library in a Box (LBOX) implementation plan and the designing of an orientation guide for Teachers and Principals and development of Teacher Guides for Levels 1 & 2 on how to implement the LBOX in the classroom were also completed. Phase 1 classroom rehabilitation in Bong, Grand Bassa, and Montserrado counties was completed and finalized. The EDC rehabilitation team, in collaboration with the MOE team, conducted joint final inspections of all works, issued certificates of completion to the contractors, and paid all the retention fees. The commencement of rehabilitation implementation in Phase 2 began in Lofa, Margibi, and Nimba. The Activity conducted joint commencements to introduce and familiarize the county education officers, school managers, community members, and the contractors. Procurement for the furniture for year 3 schools was advanced this quarter following delays in 2020 due to the pandemic. The review of the submitted bids had been conducted, and site visits of the potential bidders completed. The procurement committee will begin issuing contracts for selected bidders at the start of Q3. The Community Engagement Strategy (CES) was submitted in this quarter and combined the various approaches tested throughout the Activity, lessons learned, product descriptions, and methods, as well as recommendations for how the MoE could utilize the strategies.
