Abstract
The program aims to improve the quality of education in Liberia, with a focus on teacher training and learner development. The Learning Together curriculum is a key component of this program, designed for learners at Level 3, Semester 2. The curriculum is structured around various lessons, each focusing on a specific theme or skill. Lesson 25, "A Sense of Purpose," encourages learners to think about ways they can make a positive impact in their community through small actions. Learners are asked to draw a picture or write about their ideas. Lesson 26, "My Personal Goals," introduces the concept of setting goals for the future. Learners are asked to write a sentence and draw a picture representing a goal for their family, school, and friends that they would like to achieve in the next year. This lesson aims to help learners develop a sense of purpose and direction. Lesson 28, "Peer Pressure – Freeze the Moment," teaches learners a strategy for dealing with peer pressure. The "Freeze the Moment" approach involves stopping, thinking, and then acting on a decision that is better for the individual. Learners are asked to think about a time in their life when they could use this strategy and write a few words or draw a picture about it. Lesson 29, "Behavior and Consequences," focuses on identifying risky behaviors and actions to take to reduce risk. Learners are asked to work in pairs to identify examples of risky behavior and actions to take to reduce risk, using a story about a character named Bendu as a case study. The curriculum also includes a unit on jobs and careers, with lessons on positive influences, having a mentor, and jobs in the community. The program aims to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their future and to become active and responsible members of their community. The Accelerated Quality Education for Liberian Children program is a comprehensive initiative that addresses various aspects of education and learner development. The Learning Together curriculum is a key component of this program, providing learners with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in school and in life.
