Abstract
Activities to advance children with disabilities receiving improved language and literacy support are underway. All awardees have filled key staff positions, and additional accomplishments include planning for Proof of Concept stages, adapting Universal Design for Learning (UDL) professional development materials, and engaging with local education officials. The UnrestrICTed project, eKitabu, has started planning for the Proof of Concept stages and selected five schools for piloting of teacher training. Save the Children, another UnrestrICTed project, has held three start-up meetings to inform local community stakeholders about project objectives and completed assessments for local partners. The project has also begun preparing EdTech and Teacher and Learning materials for participants. The Begin with Books (BWB) project, led by eKitabu, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), SIL, and The Asia Foundation (TAF), is on track to complete required book development and adaptation milestones. RIT's extension to July 2022 accommodates their contribution to the Sign Language Storybook Cohort and production of COVID-focused sign language books. Indicator data for the third quarter includes 365 books provided using EdTech and 49,198 TLM views on ACR GCD-supported digital platforms. The BWB awardees have participated in a Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) session to share context-appropriate EdTech solutions that improve children's reading and language skills. The ACR GCD Challenge Management Team (CMT) has focused on supporting the BWB and UnrestrICTed awardees. The CMT has developed MEL Guidance to support UnrestrICTed awardees' MEL plans and evaluation plans. The CMT has also worked with BWB awardees to conduct self-administered Scalability Assessments Tool (SAT) ratings, which showed above-average scores across all dimensions. The BWB awardees have also participated in a CLA session to share context-appropriate EdTech solutions that improve children's reading and language skills. The CMT has promoted ACR GCD projects and solutions in World Vision's Programs newsletter and WV's presentation to members of their Child Protection and Education teams. The CMT has also submitted an entry to the USAID CLA Case Study competition on the ACR GCD's creation of the Sign Language Storybook Cohort. The CMT is serving as a Subject Matter Expert in World Vision's comprehensive revamp of the Unlock Literacy program, which will include a menu of ACR GCD solutions for literacy skills development and learning. The ACR GCD Founding Partners are fully informed, engaged, and contributing to the success of ACR GCD. The CMT has facilitated Partner Strategy Group (PSG) and Partner Operations Group (POG) meetings, disseminated regular updates and communications, and provided digital media kits for Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The CMT has also promoted ACR GCD projects and solutions in World Vision's Programs newsletter and WV's presentation to members of their Child Protection and Education teams.
