Sign inUSAID. MISSION TO SOUTH AFRICA
Grant is provided to the Namaqualand Resource and Educational Center (NAMREC) in South Africa to support its community, youth, and education development programs and strengthen its institutional capacities.
1992

Abstract
The grant will support the efforts of NAMREC"s teacher-pupil groups, which run workshops on work and study issues such as career guidance, teacher training, curriculum design, and use of and access to libraries and other information resources. NAMREC"s goal is to help young people develop leadership skills and increase their participation in community projects, reducing their emigration from Namaqualand (a vast, remote area in northwestern South Africa) and encouraging the return of those who already left to pursue educational and employment opportunities elsewhere. NAMREC will also provide fledgling community organizations, such as civic associations, with training and TA, including access to NAMREC"s resource center, to resolve local problems and develop community projects. To strengthen NAMREC"s institutional capacities the project will provide support for salaries, equipment, materials, staff training, and administrative costs.
