AID grant agreement no. 674-0312-G-SS-3075-00 with Corplan to support comprehensive planning for the redevelopment of Duncan Village in East London, including implementable plans for development of new low-cost housing, associated infrastructure, community facilities and employment opportunities under the South Africa shelter and urban development support (SUDS) project

Corplan and the DVRA have worked together over the past 3 years to develop DVRA"s capacity for community-based planning. Key activities to be funded under this agreement include: data collection and analysis resulting in a socioeconomic profile of the community; delineation of a conceptual development plan and of detailed implementation plans; and production of scale housing models to be used as consultative planning tools. These activities will provide a critical model for the eventual redevelopment and upgrading of hundreds of large, centrally located black communities. An advisory group will be established of local government officials, businesspersons, and professionals to ensure that land and end use financing is available for implementation of the plan.
