Grant is provided under the Human Rights Support Project (6740305) to the Black Housewives League (BHL) for a program to motivate and empower South African women to work towards social change and justice.

Abstract
BHL will: (1) conduct workshops to debate sociopolitical issues of concern to women and increase their understanding of their role in the process of change; (2) provide local-level leadership training to empower women, especially in rural areas, to implement their role as change agents; (3) hold annual national conferences to bring together women of different social and geographic backgrounds to evaluate BHL activities, debate and discuss issues of importance to women, and develop strategies for women to actively work toward a more just and equitable society; (4) produce a quarterly newsletter for information sharing among women; and (5) establish a BHL presence in the Eastern and Western Cape.
