Abstract
(SCI) and headed by the Pragma Corporation, to help Bulgarian agribusinesses find hard currency markets for their products. The Consortium, which has already established contacts with virtually every sector of Bulgarian agribusiness, will provide TA and training to these businesses and help them pursue marketing relationships and joint ventures with U.S. agribusiness firms. Specific assistance will include: training in market economics and agribusiness management; market research; TA in meeting international market standards and negotiating business agreements with foreign buyers and potential partners; and assistance in obtaining financing for joint ventures as well as export financing. During the first year, TVG will take the lead in helping Bulgarian agribusinesses to develop export markets for fruits and vegetables. Additional areas to be explored later will include meat and dairy products, grape products including wine, baked goods, and grains. ASU will have primary responsibility for training Bulgarian agribusiness in management, accounting, finance, and marketing. Its Center for Agribusiness Policy Studies will assist in securing financing for the in-country portion of any joint venture or marketing arrangement. SCI will take the lead in identifying market opportunities. Pragma will serve as consortium manager.
