AID grant no. EUR-0024-G-00-1072-00 to Land O" Lakes, Inc. in support of a three - year and three-month program in agricultural cooperative/business development and training in Central and Eastern Europe

to provide practical training and TA in private sector-oriented dairy production and processing and agribusiness management in Poland, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and (if they become eligible for Development Assistance funds) Romania and Albania. Training will be in three phases. (1) A total of 24 CEOs of private agribusinesses and government officials will take 7-10 day U.S. tours to learn about the U.S. free market system of agriculture. Emphasis will be placed on examining the production, processing, marketing, and distribution methods of agribusinesses and cooperatives. (2) Four 1-day national and regional fora, each with 100 participants, will be held to acquaint agribusiness leaders with the Land O"Lakes program; the fora will be videotaped for subsequent public viewing on television. (3) A total of 35 grassroots-level dairy and leaders will participate in 3- and 6-month U.S. internships, observing and taking part in the daily activities of dairy production and/or agribusiness management; emphasis will be on training of trainers. Upon return, trainees will assist in providing in- country-training and TA: 185 5-day courses for 4,625 participants, and 219 2-day TA consultancies are targeted.
